Cuba Announce Big Tourism Drive
Tourism levels are set to be boosted by the Cuban government in the next few year. It has been increasingly thought of as a viable tourist destination over the past years but wants to regain the European visitors who have been in decline recently. There was an increase in visitors last year from 2.15 million to 2.25million people, a likely result of improved financial injections into facilities and attractions. Cuba has also worked hard on its foreign diplomacy in recent years in attempts dispel outdated, potentially harmful impressions of the country that may put people off visiting on Cuba holidays
Deputy Tourism Minister, Maria Lopez Reyes has stated that ideally numbers will continue to increase.One idea is to commission the building of over 3000 new rooms in hotels that are currently running well. It is hoped that more people will want to visit if they can be offered a better range and quality of accommodation. There has been development also in the luxury holidays market, as Cuba attempts to pull in holiday with more expensive tastes. Miss Lopez Reyes has also said that hopes lie partly in the new White House administration relaxing the current restriction on American Citizens traveling to Cuba. Currently there are 45,000 US visitors who make it over to Cuba each year but it is thought that many more would come if they felt they were fully within the law to do so.
Cuba has also recently been named as the location for the first International Culinary Festival of the Caribbean. This event hosts experts in the field of food from countries across the region to talk about various topics including recipes, techniques and cooking methods. The festival also aims to highlight the role that traditional dishes have in creating strong social units and maintaining core values. The festival will be held in the East of the country in a Santiago De Cuba and there are hopes that it will help aid the current tourism efforts.
